A Contribution To The Understanding Of The Dynamics Of The Massacres In Srebrenica

The July 1995 event in Srebrenica, a small town in eastern Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), represents one of the most heinous crimes committed on European soil since the Second World War. This article, based on an analysis of newly accessible archive sources in the Archive of Memorial Centre Srebrenica Potočari (AMCSP), published sources, intercepted radio and telephone communications, memoir literature, new eyewitness testimony, other testimonies and statements, and relevant scholarly literature, examines the massacres that followed the fall of the Srebrenica enclave. The operation, carried out under the leadership of senior Bosnian Serb officials, was planned and executed carefully. To this end, the author sheds detailed light on the conditions in the Srebrenica enclave at the time of its fall, as well as the dynamics of deportations and massacres.
